Printed items, 1851-1853 [in folder], and bound volume, 1853-1859, of financial records. Printed prospectus, 29 Jan. 1851, with list of teachers and members of the Board of Trustees, a description of the course of study and length of the scholastic year, and information re tuition and boarding. Printed announcement, 15 Jan. 1853, re the name change from Johnson Female Seminary to Johnson Female University and containing a list of faculty [2 copies]; and letter of William B[ullein] Johnson, 19 July 1853, requesting I[veson] L. Brookes to attend a meeting of the board and including postscript reporting "100 Students have entered since the University opened in February." Financial ledger volume, 1853-1859 [located at Annex], listing accounts for expenses of the music department, listing money paid to and spent by the music department; entries for years 1853-1854 are certified by P.S. Vaudiver, Treasurer, and for 1855-1859 by J. Scott Murray, Treasurer (pages 555-560); this volume originally included records for "General Account, 1853," "Account with faculty," and "Account with Trustees," but these pages have been removed. More than 50 years after its use by the University, the largely blank volume was used during early 20th century by Elise Mauldin Paget to record genealogical data of several related families who lived in the vicinity of Pendleton, S.C., a work she titled, "The Paternal Ancestry of Elise Mauldin Paget, wife of James Manchester Paget and daughter of Benjamin Franklin Mauldin and Mary Eliza Daniel Reed" [ca. 1920s?].
